Say No To SEO
Here at Mosaic there is a lot of talk on how we feel SEO is the buzzword of the year. You constantly hear it and yet most people don’t really understand what it even means. I came across a great article at webdesignerdepot.com on just the subject. They found that your content is ultimately the most important thing regarding SEO. You shouldn’t be focusing on finding ways to “trick” search engines to list your page at the top. Sure that will get you a few more clicks, but what good are these clicks when the user instantly clicks back because the content they were looking for does not exist?
A quote I really enjoyed was, “If you want to have a site which performs well in search engines then you need to stop worrying about search engines and start worrying about creating a really great website. Code your site properly, make it accessible, make it usable, make sure it has fantastic content, make sure you have great marketing that has other people talking about it. All of these things contribute to the factors which search engines use to rank your site.”
If you want to have the #1 blog on the net, shouldn’t it reach the top because you are putting out amazing content that people want to talk about and share? This is how search engines are supposed to work. They keep track of sites that are getting linked to often on different subject matters. Makes sense doesn’t it? If people are linking to it they must have found something of value. There are a lot more factors that go into it but this is one of the most important ones.
I also found it interesting that they go on to interview one of the highest listed wordpress theme sites, www.woothemes.com. They are a site that did not focus on SEO but strictly on content. They are currently one of the top listed WordPress theme sites because of this. They even go on to say that at the time of development they did not know anything about SEO and did not do any “tricks”.
